Truck cameras fail for predictable reasons: water ingress, vibration fatigue, infrared glare at night and sun glare by day. Our JPC truck range is designed around those four failure modes. Housings are machined from aluminium rather than assembled from plastic, lenses sit in full metal barrels, and every model is bench tested for shock, thermal cycling and waterproofing before it leaves the line.

All models share the same 1/2.9" AHD CMOS platform and 4-pin aviation connector, so you can mix side view, front view and rear view units on a single truck without changing monitors or harnesses. Choose 720P for cost-sensitive retrofits or 1080P where drivers need to read a mirror-mounted screen in daylight.

How to choose the right truck camera

Work through four questions and the model list narrows itself down.

  1. Which position needs covering? Side blind spots want 110–150° and a body that can take a mirror-arm or panel mount. Rear reversing wants 120–170° and a downward tilt. Front wants a low-profile windscreen or grille mount.
  2. How long is the vehicle? On a rigid truck one side camera per side is enough. On a tractor-trailer combination the trailer needs its own camera or a wireless link, because the harness cannot survive the coupling.
  3. What is the working environment? Cement, quarry and waste vehicles should use IP69K aluminium bodies. Coastal and chemical fleets should use the coated JPC-171 or stainless JPC-173.
  4. Does the driver need to act on what they see? If the camera only feeds a monitor, a standard AHD unit is right. If it must warn the driver, move up to the AI JPC-181 or a 360/BSD system.

Resolution: 720P or 1080P?

720P is still appropriate for a 5-inch monitor or a simple reversing aid, and it keeps retrofits cheap. 1080P becomes worthwhile when the driver is judging distance at the side of a 12-metre trailer, when the image is recorded for insurance, or when the monitor is 7 inches or larger. Mixing the two on one vehicle is fine — both run on the same AHD platform and harness.

Connectors and cables

The 4-pin aviation connector is the industry standard for commercial vehicles and is what we fit to the truck range by default: red is 12V positive, black is 12V negative and yellow carries the video signal. Aviation connectors lock, resist water and survive a thousand coupling cycles. RCA is available for aftermarket kits, but for fleet work we recommend aviation throughout.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between IP69 and IP69K?

Both cover dust ingress and high-pressure, high-temperature water jets. IP69K adds a defined close-range, high-pressure jet test at up to 80 °C, which is the standard for vehicles that get washed down with a pressure washer. For concrete mixers, refuse trucks and food-grade fleets, specify IP69K.

Can I use these cameras on a 24V truck?

Yes. The camera heads are 12V, and every system we quote for a 24V vehicle includes the correct 24V-to-12V step-down or a monitor with a 9–36V input. Tell us the vehicle voltage when you enquire and we will match the parts.

Why do my night images show a white haze?

That is infrared backscatter, usually caused by IR LEDs sitting in the same optical chamber as the lens, or by a dirty or scratched lens cover. Cameras with a dual-chamber body such as the JPC-171 and dot-matrix LED boards avoid the effect by design. Keeping the lens cover clean removes most of the rest.

Do you offer camera housings with our logo?

Yes. Logo printing, laser etching, custom cable lengths, custom connectors and bespoke brackets are all available. Tooling for a genuinely new housing is quoted separately and depends on volume.

Need help specifying truck & side view cameras?
