Stitching four camera feeds into a usable bird’s-eye view on a 12- or 16-metre vehicle is not the same problem as doing it on a car. Long vehicles have large blind regions between the camera footprints, the cameras sit several metres apart, and the bodywork flexes. Our LRS platform uses a large-vehicle splicing algorithm developed specifically for trucks, buses and special vehicles rather than an adapted passenger-car pipeline.

On top of the stitched view, the system layers warnings: AI visual detection on all four sides for pedestrians and vehicles, optional ultrasonic radar, and GPS-based logic that only raises a blind spot warning below a configurable speed — so the driver is not harassed at motorway speed.

When a 360 system is the right answer

A 360 system earns its cost when the vehicle has multiple blind zones that a single camera cannot cover — a tipper with a raised body, a concrete mixer with a rear chute, a bus with a nearside cyclist zone, or a specialist vehicle with an overhanging boom. If the vehicle only needs a reversing view, a camera and monitor is cheaper and just as effective.

Sizing the system to the vehicle

  • Rigid truck, tipper, mixer (8–12 m) — four 360 cameras plus optional front and rear radar. Speed-based BSD is essential because the dangerous zone appears at low speed when pulling away.
  • Tractor and semi-trailer (16 m+) — 360 covers the tractor; the trailer needs its own camera or a wireless link (see the wireless range). Do not assume tractor-mounted cameras can see the trailer kingpin area.
  • Bus and coach — 360 plus nearside BSD is the standard urban configuration, and it pairs naturally with the interior camera layout.
  • Specialist and engineering vehicles — choose a system with CAN input so steering angle and body position can be consumed from the vehicle rather than inferred.

Commissioning is where 360 systems succeed or fail

A 360 system needs a proper calibration on a marked floor after installation. Skipped calibration shows up as a stitched image with bent lines and ghost objects, and drivers lose trust in it immediately. We supply calibration instructions and, for volume projects, on-site or remote support through the commissioning.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 360 view work at speed?

The stitched view is most useful at low speed, which is exactly where large-vehicle blind spots do their damage. Above a configurable threshold — 20 km/h by default — the blind spot warning is suppressed so the driver is not distracted on the open road, while recording continues.

What is the difference between camera BSD and radar BSD?

Camera BSD classifies what it sees — a person, a cyclist, a car — but can be affected by heavy rain, direct sun and dirt. Ultrasonic radar measures distance and is unaffected by light, but cannot tell you what the object is. The LRS-371AI uses both: radar for reliable proximity, camera AI for classification, fused into a single warning.

Can I record the 360 footage on the same storage as my MDVR?

The 360 controller records its own cameras; an MDVR records its own. For a single archive, choose a configuration where the 360 outputs are fed to the MDVR as additional channels, or use our all-in-one units which combine both functions.

How much storage do I need?

As a rule of thumb, eight 1080P channels at 25 fps on H.265 fill roughly 1 GB per hour per channel, so a 1TB drive holds a little over four days of continuous recording. Most fleets keep 7–30 days and size storage accordingly, or use event-triggered recording to stretch capacity.
