Private-Label Vehicle Cameras: What We Change, and What It Costs You

What we actually change
This is not a generic list. Each line below is something we have built and shipped for a customer.
Branding and packaging
- Logo application: laser etching on metal housings, silk-screen on plastic, embossed or printed labels, tamper-evident stickers.
- Retail packaging: colour box, printed insert, moulded tray, barcode and carton marking, multi-language manual.
- Documentation under your brand: datasheet, user manual and declaration documents prepared with your company name.
Housing and tooling
- Private moulds for a housing that is yours alone, in the material and colour you specify.
- Existing housings modified: different cable exit, different bracket, extra sealing, a shorter or longer body. This is far cheaper than a new mould and is what most first projects actually need.
- Mounting hardware: U-brackets, butterfly brackets, suction mounts, magnetic bases, gooseneck arms, sunshades — all made to your requirement.
- IP rating upgrades where the housing allows it; where it does not, we will say so rather than sell you the claim.
Optics and sensing
- Lens: focal length from 2.8 mm to 16 mm, which sets the field of view — see the field-of-view article for the arithmetic.
- Infrared: 650 nm, 850 nm or 940 nm LEDs, LED count and layout, IR-CUT mechanism.
- Camera without IR-CUT for housings too small to carry one — a modification we have built for a specific customer shell.
- Sensor platform confirmed per project; we will state plainly which platform a given model uses rather than describing the range as a whole.
Firmware and behaviour
- Boot logo and boot screen, OSD text, default language, menu labels.
- Mirror or normal image, parking guide lines on or off, default video format (PAL / NTSC).
- Alarm thresholds, detection zones, speed gating and warning behaviour on AI models.
- Monitor-specific options: custom boot image at 1024×600, battery-backed settings memory so configuration survives a power cycle, and signal-triggered automatic power-on.
Colour options that differ by signal type
- AHD monitors: colour options are effectively unlimited — artwork can be loaded directly.
- CVBS monitors: limited to two colours. This is a hardware limit, and it is better to know it at quotation stage than at sample stage.
Connectors, cables and signal formats
- 4-pin aviation, RCA, waterproof BMW-style plug, small aviation connector, IP camera RJ45.
- Single-shielded or double-shielded cable, custom length and gauge, spring-coil harness, splitter harness.
- Output format: AHD, CVBS, USB or LVDS. We have also built AHD-to-CVBS conversion and 12V-to-24V voltage conversion for customers whose vehicle or monitor required it.
Certification
CE, FCC, RoHS and EMC certification obtained against your brand and model name, with the documentation issued in your company's name. Minimum 300 pcs; the testing fee is quoted separately and is a one-off cost. Tell us the destination market at enquiry stage, because a certificate that is wrong for the market is worse than no certificate.

Standard models ship immediately; custom units are sampled and approved against the written specification before tooling or mass production.
Tooling, certification, production
Tooling is cut, first articles inspected, certification run against your brand, then production and pre-shipment inspection.
What to include in your brief
The more of this you send in the first message, the more useful our first reply will be — and the fewer rounds it takes to reach a quote.
- Destination market and certification requirement. CE, FCC, E-mark, RoHS or a customer-specific specification.
- Model or function. A catalogue model you want to start from, or the job the product has to do.
- Quantity. First order and expected annual volume — both matter, because tooling amortises over the second figure.
- Logo files. Vector artwork (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF), not a screenshot.
- Packaging requirement. Neutral box, your own design, retail-ready, with or without a printed manual.
- Connector, cable length and harness layout, if the product has to fit an existing vehicle harness.
- Firmware behaviour. Boot logo, default settings, alarm logic, languages.
Two honest notes
Standard model with your logo is a different project from a new mould. The first is 300 pieces and no tooling; the second is 1,000 pieces and a tooling cost. Both are legitimate, and we will tell you plainly which one your requirement actually is rather than quoting the more expensive one.
A number of the models in our catalogue exist because one customer needed them first. If your requirement is close to something already in production, the cheapest answer is usually to take that platform and change the branding, the cable or the firmware — not to start from a blank sheet.
Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum order for my own logo on a camera?
300 pieces per model. That covers laser etching, silk-screen printing or a printed label. Depending on the method there may be a one-off screen or plate setup charge, which we quote with the unit price.
What is the minimum order if I need a new housing?
1,000 pieces, plus the tooling cost, which is a one-off and quoted separately. If an existing housing can be modified instead — a different cable exit, bracket or sealing — the minimum is 300 pieces and there is no tooling cost. Ask us which of the two your requirement actually needs.
Can you certify the product under our brand?
Yes. CE, FCC, RoHS and EMC certification can be obtained against your brand and model name, with documentation issued in your company name. Minimum 300 pieces and the testing fee is quoted separately.
Can you change the firmware without a tooling cost?
In most cases yes — boot logo, OSD text, default language, mirror or normal image, parking lines and alarm thresholds are firmware changes with no tooling cost, from 300 pieces.
How long does a custom project take?
It depends on whether new tooling is involved and on how long approval takes. We give a dated schedule with the quotation rather than a generic lead time, and we hold to the dates in that document.
Who owns the mould if we pay for the tooling?
Tooling terms — who holds the mould, for how long, and whether it can be transferred — are agreed in writing before the tool is cut, so there is no ambiguity later.
